A third course is to be developed at the Streamsong Resort in Florida.

Streamsong Black will be designed by Gil Hanse, the architect behind the Olympic course in Rio de Janeiro, and is set to open in autumn 2017.

“Gil is a tremendously talented architect who approaches each project with a fresh, thoughtful perspective and a keen eye for the natural landscape,” said Rich Mack, Streamsong’s sponsor and executive vice president of The Mosaic Company, which owns Streamsong. “He is one of the best architects in the industry, highly gifted with sand-based sites, and has an exciting vision for Streamsong Black. The Streamsong Black site is a wonderful piece of property, unique unto itself, and highly conducive to compelling golf.”

Streamsong Black will complement the existing Tom Doak-designed Streamsong Blue and the Coore & Crenshaw-designed Streamsong Red courses at the resort.

The new course will be built directly south-east of the two existing courses, and according to an official release from the resort, will feature ‘abundant sand, elevation changes, native grasses and stunning views of ridges and the surrounding landscape on a grand scale’.

Architect Hanse commented: “We’re honoured to be a part of such an amazing venue and to be able to develop a layout alongside Streamsong Red and Streamsong Blue, which were designed by the three architects I admire the most.”

“Streamsong is about an authentic golf experience, and the natural environment and landscape at Streamsong is simply like nothing we’ve experienced,” he added. “It’s one of the very best. To work with such a great piece of land and to showcase Streamsong Black alongside Bill, Ben and Tom’s designs is a dream come true for a golf course architect. We view this as a huge opportunity for our team, and one that we’re very excited about. I can’t wait to get started.”

The resort also hinted at the prospect of a fourth course, the details of which will be revealed at a later date.
