Hills course at Infinitum hosts DP World Tour event following redesign

The Infinitum resort in Tarragona, Spain, has hosted competitive play on its renovated Hills course for the first time since a redesign by European Golf Design (EGD). The course – along with the resort’s Lakes layout – was the venue for the DP World Tour Qualifying School Final Stage, held on 7-12 November 2025.

The back nine of the Hills reopened in September following a significant redesign by EGD’s Dave Sampson. The renovation forms the first phase of a two-stage transformation intended to enhance the course’s strategy, tournament readiness and long-term sustainability.

Updates include new green complexes, a revised routing and the introduction of Zoysia surrounds with bermuda 419 fairways. The number of numbers has been reduced by around 30 per cent, with the twelfth a prime location for reducing the overall sand footprint.

A key component of the work was the reconstruction of the eighteenth hole, now a par four with an island green set within a natural quarry. The project also included lengthening the par-three tenth with a new back tee, and reversing the routing of holes fifteen – which has a new water feature - and sixteen.

“We’re incredibly proud to unveil the back nine renovation of the Hills course in time for Q-School and to see it immediately tested under the highest level of competition,” said Joaquín Mora Bertrán, deputy general manager at Infinitum. “The new eighteenth hole in particular will provide a truly spectacular finale... one that will challenge and excite in equal measure.”

Work on the front nine will take place between December 2025 to September 2026, with the back nine of the Hills joining up the the nine-hole Ruins layout to make for a temporary composite course.

Joaquín Mora Bertrán, deputy general manager at Infinitum, said: “At its core, this renovation is about cementing the Hills as one of Europe’s best courses, as well as bringing it up to the standard the Lakes course reached when it underwent a renovation of its own recently.

“Of course, we still have about a year to wait before we can experience the fully renovated course in all its glory, but based on the incredible work done on the back nine we are very much looking forward to seeing the finished product later in 2026.”
