Five artificial greens have been added to the short-game area at the Houghton-le-Spring Golf Club in County Durham, UK.

A first of its kind in the UK, the new greens have been designed and supplied by Huxley Golf. The five all-weather greens will complement an existing natural green, with each measuring approximately 525 square yards in size.

The greens were created using Huxley Golf Green Turf, and three hole positions are incorporated into each green.

“Moving over 500 tonnes of soil, substrate and hardcore and working with a one in six gradient, this installation was quite a challenge, but one that we all relished because we knew we were creating something quite brilliant!” said Huxley Golf’s area manager Hugh Fraser, who worked in partnership with the club’s greenkeeping team on the installation. “My challenge in designing the area was to both counteract and utilise the slopes. In doing so, we’ve created five greens that are challenging in their own right and yet together they create a harmonious look in keeping with the wonderful surrounding landscape.”
