Olympic View Golf Club in Langford, Canada, has introduced a new master plan for its course, developed with design firm Lobb + Partners.
Announced during the club’s 35th anniversary, the project outlines a phased programme of refinements to strategy, conditioning and environmental management. The initiative is built around a target of achieving GEO Certification, an industry standard for sustainable golf facilities. Certification requires measures such as water conservation, biodiversity support, efficient maintenance practices and engagement with the local community.
“This master plan aligns perfectly with our GEO Certification goal,” said T-Jay Creamer, golf course superintendent at Olympic View Golf Club. “It’s not just about how the course plays – it’s about how it integrates with the surrounding nature and how we ensure it thrives for decades to come.”
Planned adjustments include widening fairways, enlarging short-grass areas and introducing new naturalised zones. Hazard placement is also being reconsidered to reflect modern distances while maintaining variety for different levels of golfer.
“Olympic View is a special site,” says Alex Hay, partner at Lobb + Partners. “Our goal was to preserve the character of the existing layout while introducing updates that enhance sustainability, strategy and visual impact. It’s about helping the course evolve in a way that feels natural and enduring.”
Work will begin in autumn 2025 with reconstruction of the seventh green, intended to create more variety and fairness in pin positions. Construction is expected to continue across several seasons.
The project is also linked with Olympic View Living, a residential development alongside the course. Paths, homes, wetlands and fairways are being integrated into the surrounding landscape, with the golf course forming part of the setting.
“Olympic View Living was designed to embrace the natural beauty of the site, and the golf course is a key part of that experience,” says Peter de Zwager, vice-president of development for the Burrard Group.
