Golf construction firm MJ Abbott has completed work on a new short game area, with input from Weller Designs, for High Post Golf Club in Wiltshire, England.
Built on a parcel of land to the southeast of the clubhouse and featuring synthetic turf elements from Southwest Greens, the short game area provides a dedicated space for pitching, chipping, bunker play and short-range performance practice.

It is one of a series of investments that the club is making to reflect its “long-term commitment to quality, sustainability, and providing one of the most complete golfing experiences in the region”. This includes the redevelopment of its driving range through a large-scale infill project designed to safer, more functional and future-ready practice environment, plus the introduction of robotic mowers from Husqvarna for more efficient use of greenkeeping resources and a lower carbon footprint.
“This is about investing in the long-term future of High Post. We’re improving the experience for current members while ensuring the club remains attractive and relevant to the next generation of golfers,” said club manager Andy Rideout.

High Post, named after the site of an ancient gallows, is close to Stonehenge and its golf course, laid out by Fred Hawtree and JH Taylor in 1922, is a downland design with views over Salisbury Plain. The new short game area is expected to open in Autumn 2026 and the driving range will follow in 2027.
