Greg Murihead of Rees Jones, Inc. has overseen a regrassing of the golf course at Shadow Hawk Golf Club in Houston, Texas.

The architect has worked alongside owner-operator Escalante Golf and contractor Golf Sculptors International. The project began in 2024, with tees grassed with Stadium Zoysia, fairways with TiffTuf bermuda and greens with TifEagle bermuda.

“With this renovation, we’ve honoured the original vision of Shadow Hawk while making necessary investments to ensure the course presents a premium playing experience for decades to come,” said Mike Shoelen, general manager at Shadow Hawk Golf Club. “Combined with our limited membership and commitment to exceptional conditions, this positions Shadow Hawk as one of the most distinctive and private golf experiences not just in Houston but in the state of Texas.”

Muirhead, who was onsite during the initial construction of the Rees Jones-designed course, returned to ensure the work still aligned with Jones’ original design intent.

Other work has included the sodding of collars and approaches to enhance playability and prevent soil erosion in high traffic areas, as well as sand topdressing and aerification of teeing areas to improve grass fertility.
