The Spring 2026 issue of By Design magazine from the American Society of Golf Course Architects, and produced by the team behind Golf Course Architecture, is now available in digital format.

The latest release of the digital publication focuses on the experiences of ASCGA-member architects on golf course design projects around the world. Jason Straka, Bruce Charlton, Rees Jones, Kevin Ramsey, Brian Curley, Cynthia Dye, Sean Quinn and Mike Gorman all share insight on how their international projects differ from their work in North America.

“Like many of our projects in a country where golf is new, there is an education process that goes on with the client and contractor,” says Ramsey, who recently designed Paragraph Tabori, a new golf course in the Eastern European nation of Georgia. “They are used to building roads and structures, not golf courses. We explain the construction methods and value of proper materials but also provide experienced personnel to make sure the golf features are built properly. Our design approach doesn’t change; it’s more down to educating the local teams to ensure a full understanding of the quality we are after.”

Also in this issue, By Design profiles the new Summit course at Apogee Club in Hobe Sound, Florida. It is the first US newbuild by Kyle Phillips, who drew on his experiences of golf in the United Kingdom and Ireland. “What you see on many links and heathland courses are small nuances that don’t always reveal themselves immediately,” he says. “The more you play them, the more you begin to understand how they work. We wanted Summit to have that same quality – something that rewards repeat play and gradually reveals its character.”

The issue also includes coverage of the 2026 GCSAA Conference & Trade Show in Orlando, Florida; a page from Andy Staples’ sketchbook for Arcola Country Club in New Jersey; and news of Gil Hanse’s renovation of the Links at Spanish Bay in California.
