Tripp Davis is approaching completion of a golf course renovation project at BraeBurn Country Club near Houston, Texas, which was originally designed by John Bredemus in 1931.

Davis’s work has included reshaping all greens, rebuilding and moving tees, redesigning bunkers to a more ‘classic’ style, and making better use of the course’s elevation change, much of which was created during a 1991 project to address flooding issues.

Turf has been replaced with NorthBridge bermuda, while a new irrigation system has been installed and drainage has been updated.

“BraeBurn has been an exciting project for us in taking a piece of ground with so much potential, and then realising that potential,” said Davis. “We rebuilt almost every part of the course to try to give it a feel of being from that early American era – the Golden Age of architecture.”

Davis has worked alongside superintendents Terry Gill and Aaron Engelhard, golf course builder Greenscape Methods and irrigation contractor Heritage Links on the project.

The club is planning to reopen the front nine in December.
