Wentworth Club has added European Golf Design to the advisory team for the restoration of the club’s West Course.

The move comes as part of a pioneering new partnership, which will see leading players from the European Tour provide feedback which will help direct the restoration project.

European Golf Design will work in Ernie Els Design on the extensive bunker remodelling programme. Wentworth’s director of golf courses and grounds Kenny Mackay will work closely with representatives from the firm to ensure that pro players’ views are central to the restoration work. The partnership is being supported by the European Tour.

Wentworth Club chief executive Stephen Gibson said: “Having the European Tour as our partner and European Golf Design join our advisory team is absolutely fantastic news for the West Course and for Wentworth. It will mean ongoing player review and endorsement of our plans, which will be delivered by the industry’s best consultants. We really could not have a more complete team for the West Course restoration.”

The new partnership comes shortly after the news that Gary Player Design will be leading a renovation to the club’s Edinburgh Course.

“We are delighted to be working with Wentworth on the renovation of the West Course,” said Jeremy Slessor, managing director of European Golf Design. “The process of consulting the leading European Tour players will certainly enhance the project, helping to ensure we deliver improvements that will result in an outstanding Championship golf course.”
