$10m project at Canadian mountain resort has included updates to bunkers, grasses and cart paths, a redesign of two greens and tee work

Whistler Golf Club in British Columbia, Canada, will reopen in July 2027 following a $10 million renovation by Thad Layton.
The mountain resort has four championship 18-hole layouts: Big Sky (Bob Cupp), Nicklaus North (Nicklaus Design), Chateau Whistler (Robert Trent Jones II) and Arnold Palmer’s design, which opened in 1983.
Ex-Palmer associate Layton has led the renovation of the Whistler course, which has included updating bunkers to improve their playability and aesthetics, redesigning the third and twelfth greens for player safety and improved sightlines, resurfacing fairways and greens, a redesign of tee complexes, and updating cart paths.

“When we reopen in July 2027, golfers will discover a course that feels distinctly Whistler while offering a more contemporary and welcoming experience,” said Alan Kristmanson, general manager of Whistler Golf Club. “These improvements will elevate the course’s playability, beauty and safety while preserving the character that has made Whistler Golf Club special for more than four decades.”
Other work at the resort includes a renovation of Palmer’s Gallery Bar & Grill, upgrades to the clubhouse patio and a new snack shack beside the first hole.
“The July 2027 reopening will be an important milestone for golf in Whistler,” said Barrett Fisher, president and CEO of Tourism Whistler. “This investment will ensure Whistler Golf Club remains a premium, playable course capable of attracting and inspiring golfers from around the world for decades to come.”
