Arnold Palmer Design to create new short game facility at Bay Hill

A team from Arnold Palmer Design is to create a two-acre short game facility at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge near Orlando, Florida.

The facility will feature four greens of varying shapes and sizes. Bunkers will also be built to different styles and depths, helping to recreate play out on the course.

To accommodate the short game facility, changes will be made to the ninth hole on the club’s Charger course. This will see the hole converted into a drivable par four.

Other elements of the project include the installation of a new irrigation system on the Charger course, and renovations to the club’s driving range.

“It is important for us to design a facility that showcases on-course scenarios not only found at Bay Hill, but other situations players would find when playing at other top clubs around the world,” said Brandon Johnson, Arnold Palmer Design architect and vice president. “The new short game area will allow members and guests to get lost in their practice sessions honing basic shots or experimenting with a variety of recovery shots that incorporate flat pitch slopes, nobs, false fronts, backboards and various bunkers styles.”
