ASGCA reports continued upswing of golf course renovations in the US

The American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) is reporting a continued upswing in golf course renovations in the US.

The organisation’s members are reporting an increased number of proposed and ongoing renovation projects at both private clubs and public facilities across the country.

With interest rates remaining near record lows, more and more course owners and managers are taking the leap when it comes to both small and large-scale projects that help create sustainable facilities for golfers.

“Our members are very busy with renovations right now,” said Steve Smyers, president of ASGCA. “Clubs are taking advantage of new technology and the knowledge ASGCA members bring to address areas like turfgrass removal, forward tees, bunker removal and smart water usage, leading to greater efficiency all over the course.”

A recent report from the National Golf Foundation and Sirius Golf Advisors found that a number of recent major renovation projects at public courses in the Dallas area of Texas resulted in significant revenue increases. These courses saw annual revenue jump from US$939,000 and US$1.6 million in the first year after reopening.

Four courses that underwent minor renovations saw average annual revenue increase from US$1.1 million to US$1.5 million.

More information on this study can be found in Issue 23 of ASGCA’s By Design magazine.
