Beau Welling to redesign course at Country Club in Tasmania

Federal Group and Kin Capital have selected Beau Welling Design to redesign the golf course at Country Club in Prospect Vale, a suburb of Launceston in the north-east of the Australian island. The project will be Welling’s first in the country.

Welling says: “While the course will stress playability in its design, the new routing will also provide a stern test to low handicap golfers through an emphasis on course strategy, shot values, and ‘risk-reward’ scenarios.”

The new design will be based on several core principles: adequate width off the tee to provide options to navigate from tee to green; preferred angles of play guarded by distinctive hazard placements; both subtle and dramatic green contouring to reward precise shot-making; and interesting green surrounds to promote creative recovery shot options.

“Golf is a great opportunity to unite people and bring communities closer,” says Welling. “Country Club Estate will be a prime example as the course is intended to be accessible for all levels of play and is designed to foster a community environment where all golfers will be able to have fun and enjoy the course round after round.”

The course will be complemented by new practice facilities and will anchor a new residential and community development that will also include a large park, trails, tennis and a gym and wellness centre.

Welling expects the new course – located just over an hour’s drive from Barnbougle Dunes – to be a “unique, classically-styled parkland course” addition to Tasmania’s golf offerings.
