Bill Bergin leads second phase of renovation project at Druid Hills
The second phase of a renovation project is well underway at Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia, under the supervision of golf course architect Bill Bergin.
The course at Druid Hills was originally designed by Herbert Barker and opened in 1912. The course was renovated by Bob Cupp, a mentor of Bergin’s, in 2004.
The current project has a focus on the course’s bunkering, with Bergin aiming to improve their mechanics, strategic positioning and the way the bunkers fit into green surrounds .
The Better Billy Bunker construction method has been used, and Bergin has also added his preferred grass-faced bunker style.
Nine new forward tees and five championship tees have been introduced to help make par more attainable for more players.
Bergin has also increased the playable areas around the course’s greens, meaning golfers will be more easily able to navigate hazards and explore a range of short game opportunities.
