Bottlebrush course at Longleaf Golf & Family Club opens for play
A new six-hole short course has opened at Longleaf Golf & Family Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
Built on a 3.5-acre site, the ‘Bottlebrush’ course has been designed by golf course architect Bill Bergin of Bergin Golf Designs.
The course features holes ranging from 50 to 100 yards in length. The six greens are small and well contoured, with interesting chipping areas surrounding each putting surface.
As a proponent of designing and playing golf from the ground up, Bergin has ensured Bottlebrush epitomises this philosophy. The course features a number of bumps and rolls on what previously was a flat piece of property.
“In this day of limited time, Bottlebrush offers a unique golf experience that can be enjoyed in well under an hour,” said Bergin. “It is a great place to introduce new golfers to the game, for families to come together, and for accomplished golfers to hone their short game skills – truly offering something for everyone in a small package.”
Longleaf was recently taken over the US Kids Golf Foundation, and Bottlebrush embodies the organisation’s emphasis on kids and families.
The new ‘Longleaf Tee System’ has been implemented throughout the course. Developed by Dan Van Horn of the US Kids Golf Foundation, this system aims to provide all the family with a fair and fun test of their abilities.
In addition to Bottlebrush course and the Longleaf Tees, Bergin has designed all new practice facilities at Longleaf, which are now the home of the US Kids Golf Academy.
The Bottlebrush course has been built by Landscapes Unlimited, with the Wadsworth Golf Charities Foundation played a large role in the funding of the project.
