Carrick voted ASGCA president
Canadian Doug Carrick has been elected president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects at the organisation’s recent 63rd annual meeting in Seattle.
Carrick, principal of the Toronto-based design firm that bears his name, studied landscape architecture at the University of Toronto and counts golf course architect Robbie Robinson, an ASGCA past president among his mentors. He has designed more than 50 golf courses, including the Carrick on Loch Lomond in Scotland, Greywolf in British Columbia, Fontana in Austria, the regular home of the Austrian Open, and Angus Glen in Ontario, which has twice hosted the Canadian Open.
As president, Carrick says he hopes to promote the social, economic and environmental benefits of golf courses. He also says he believes that today’s courses, designed to respond to the distance the golf ball can travel, can be positively impacted by designs that allow for faster rounds and less land being used.
