Clifftop drama in Madeira for Faldo

Faldo Design is starting work on a new course at Ponta do Pargo on the north western tip of the Portuguese island of Madeira. The course, part of a development that also includes a five star hotel, is being built with the intention of hosting the Madeira Island Open, and occupies a spectacular clifftop site. Nick Faldo, who recently paid his first visit to the site, said: "The enduring feature is the dramatic nature of the site. The routing we are developing makes full use of the clifftops of a broad headland that juts out into the Atlantic; it is absolutely stunning. A number of valleys cut through the site, allowing for some remarkable elevation changes."
