Construction of new Mar de Indias golf course begins in Colombia
The construction of a new golf course is now underway at a site near Cartagena, Colombia.
The course at Mar de Indias Golf Club has been designed by a team from Greg Norman Golf Course Design (GNGCD), and marks the firm’s first course in Colombia.
The 6,800-yard course is being built on Colombia’s Caribbean coastline, on a hilly and undulating site with views of the sea peppered throughout.
GNGCD’s design is deliberately eco-sensitive, and the course will be grassed with Sea Dwarf Paspalum to maintain the land’s integrity. Much native vegetation and natural surrounds will remain untouched.
Six holes and the club’s driving range will be grassed by the end of the 2017 growing season, and a full nine-hole opening is scheduled for 2018.
The course will form part of a new real estate community currently under development a short distance from central Cartagena.
