Course at Sherwood CC to reopen next month following restoration project

The golf course at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California is to reopen next month following a restoration project led by Nicklaus Design.

Jack Nicklaus oversaw the original construction of the course at Sherwood, which opened for play in 1989.

The course has been modernised, with the design tweaked to improve playability and agronomic conditions.

Many of the changes to the course have been made with water in mind, including changes to the irrigation systems that more accurately target the placement of water and grass of different varieties that retain water more efficiently.

Nicklaus has visited the course a number of times during the restoration, advising on bunkering, changes to green contours and green angles.

Nicklaus commented: “We have always considered ourselves good stewards of the land, and the changes made at Sherwood further that mission. There is no more important commodity or global issue than water, and we have collaborated with the leadership at Sherwood to make the course more efficient while maintaining playability.”

A three-day event will take place in March to celebrate the course’s reopening.
