Davison finishes Penati construction

English golf architect Jonathan Davison has finished construction on the second course at the Penati resort in Slovakia after a build lasting only six months.

Penati's new Heritage course, Davison's first project since launching his own firm, Create Golf, will open next summer. The 6,230 metre (6,800) course is set within a 100 hectare site of Scots pines, silver birch and heather, and sits on a base of pure sand. Polish contractor Golf Projekt built the course along with Davison.

“It really was a pleasure to work with this site,” the architect said. “It has every ingredient a golf course architect dreams about, and I'm sure it will leave a lasting impression on anyone who plays it.” To be managed by German firm Engelmann Golf, Davison's Heritage course, will make a 36-hole complex along with the resort's Nicklaus design that opened this year.

Meanwhile, the Sobiene Krolewskie course outside Warsaw, which Davison worked on as part of the Ford Golf Design team before setting up his own firm, celebrated its official opening during the summer. Davison said: “The existing landscape gave us an excellent canvas to work on, and we incorporated those natural features to produce a traditional style of course. It's something new for the Polish market, but so far, comments have been excellent.”
