Desert Highlands reopens course following $7m renovation
Desert Highlands Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, has completed a $7 million renovation of its Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course.
The project began in April 2019 and included a new irrigation system, cart path upgrades and bunkers renovated with Capillary Concrete lining and new sand that complements the Sonoran Desert landscape.
The club has also – with the direction of Jon Garner, a consultant for Nicklaus Design – restored the original design intent of the split-fairway par-four thirteenth. The left fairway is easier to hit and presents more approach options, while the more direct route to the right requires a long and accurate tee shot.
“We are thrilled to reopen the golf course to the members, and look forward to the feedback regarding the enhancements,” says general manager Monty Becton. “The project will greatly enrich the golf experience at Desert Highlands, while also restoring characteristics to Jack Nicklaus’s original vision and intent.”
