Desert Mountain completes new practice facilities for Renegade course

Desert Mountain, the private club and community in the Sonoran desert near Phoenix, USA, has completed new practice facilities, regrassing and changes to the first hole on its Renegade course.

The layout has two targets on each hole, 12 of which have two greens and the remaining six with a large double green. It is one of its six Jack Nicklaus-designed 18-hole courses at the private club and community, which also opened an 18-hole par three course, No. 7, designed by club members Bill Brownlee and Wendell Pickett, in 2019.

The practice facilities include a two-sided practice range, pitching green with multiple bunkers, and a large putting and chipping complex. They will complement a new clubhouse, set to open in late 2023.

Construction work was completed by Landscapes Unlimited, who also reseeded fairways and tees throughout the Renegade course, moving from bentgrass to rye, and carried out several changes to the first hole. Landscapes also expanded the driving range tee area on the club’s Apache course.

This latest project follows a comprehensive renovation of the Renegade in 2019, when greens, tees and bunkers were all rebuilt.

“Desert Mountain boasts an iconic collection of golf courses and associated amenities,” said Dave Linngren, vice president of the West region at Landscapes Unlimited.

Todd Bohn, director of agronomy at Desert Mountain, said: “Landscapes Unlimited is terrific to work with. Its team deeply cares about a streamlined process and terrific outcomes, and we can count on Landscapes to come in on time and on budget.”
