Dye Designs advises The Shire London on renovation work
Dye Designs is providing recommendations and guidance to The Shire London in Barnet, England, on renovation work on its Seve Ballesteros course.
Under the guidance of the Dye family, the club has interseeded greens on both the Ballesteros and nine-hole Academy courses with Pure Distinction bentgrass from Tee-2-Green.
The Shire London is among the first UK courses to use Pure Distinction, and it is hoped that the new grass will provide stronger resistance to disease, temperature change and wear and tear, making it easier to maintain and providing a truer roll than species that are typically used in the country.
Dye Designs has also designed a new short game and putting area and has helped staff with greenkeeping practices.
Over the next few years, all greenside bunkers will be renovated and lined with Capillary Concrete in order to reduce the occurrence of washouts, soil contamination, plugged lies and other maintenance problems.
“So far, I have redesigned the greenside bunkers on holes eight, nine and thirteen and I am confident the new changes will impress members and guests alike,” said Cynthia Dye McGarey.
Following a visit to the Medalist Golf Club in Florida, the club has opted to construct bunker faces with recycled artificial turf. “We are delighted to be introducing EcoBunker technology to The Shire London,” said Dye McGarey. “The maintenance will become a lot cheaper and a lot less time consuming, meaning more can be invested in other parts of the club.”
Ceri Menai-Davis, director of The Bridgedown Group, said: “We are hugely excited at the start of this golf season about introducing our golf course improvements to members and guests at The Shire London. The golf course remains true to Seve’s design, but, with the assistance of the Dye family, we will be able to ensure our quality of conditioning shines through all year round.”
The Bridgedown Group is also working with Dye Designs on two other venues being developed in the UK’s capital, West London Links and The Dye London. Following the Dye team’s recent work on final shaping and green surrounds, West London Links is due to open in 2020.
