Farrington Park GC submits plans to redevelop Duchy course

Farrington Park Golf Club has submitted a series of proposals which could see a number of new holes created at the club in Somerset, UK.

According to the Bath Chronicle, the club has proposed a series of alterations to its golf facilities to Mendip Council. The club currently has the  18-hole Duchy course and  nine-hole Manor course.

Proposals include the redevelopment of a 35 acre section of the current Duchy course, currently home to its first five holes. This area – which sometimes encounters drainage issues – will be converted to a new nine-hole par three course, with hole lengths between 90 and 210 yards.

Five replacement holes for the Duchy course will then be built elsewhere, with the club hopeful of acquiring a small amount of land to help accommodate this.

It is hoped that the changes will mean golfers will benefit from enhanced year-round conditions.

The report indicates that the plan also calls for the club’s current driving range to be converted into accommodation, and for a new range to be created. A new academy course also forms part of the proposed developments.

If plans are approved, course director John Cowgill told the Bath Chronicle he was hopeful the new layout at Farrington Park would be completed within six years.

Mendip Council is expected to make a determination by 13 February.
