Fazio Design begins Sabal renovation at Bonita Bay Club

Fazio Design’s Tom Marzolf is leading a $16.5 million renovation project on the Sabal course at Bonita Bay Club in southwest Florida.

The club has five courses, two in Naples by Fazio Design – the recently renovated Cypress layout and Sabal – and three in Bonita Springs designed by Arthur Hills.

Work on Sabal, which originally opened in 1998 and borders a wildlife preserve, will include tees, fairways, bunkers, greens and drainage, and is scheduled to take 16 months to complete.

“These upgrades and additions to Bonita Bay Club’s facilities are part of the club’s masterplan,” said Fred Fung, Bonita Bay Club’s CEO and general manager. “Our members are engaged and seek excellence in all aspects of their lifestyle here. Last year’s Cypress renovation set the bar for how we can make an already excellent golf experience ever better.”

At Bonita Bay’s Naples campus, a $12 million clubhouse will be built, which will have views of the eighteenth greens of both Cypress and Sabal courses.

On the same campus, the 14-acre practice facility will undergo a $2 million renovation. Work includes fairways cut to mimic tee shots found on both courses, an area with multiple greens to practice wedge shots, an expanded short-game area, and a new practice green. Nearly 47,000 cubic yards of fill will be used from the site to create target greens on the range.

At the Bonita Bay campus, two new golf performance centres will be built.
