Gordon Lewis to lead renovation at Florida’s Colonial in April 2025

Colonial Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida, has selected Gordon Lewis to oversee a golf course renovation that will begin in April 2025.

The project will focus on greens, bunkers and tees with the architect aiming to improve their playability, aesthetics and sustainability. New irrigation will also be installed, and cart paths will be reconfigured.

Greens will be regrassed with TifEagle bermuda, while the remainder of the course will feature Bimini bermuda.

A new 650-foot bulkhead surrounding the eighteenth green will be built, ensuring structural integrity and enhancing its visual appeal. Three additional bulkheads will be constructed at other green complexes to help with safety and playability.

Waste areas will be raised and cleaned out, with landscape work also to be completed. And to address difficult-to-drain spots, additional drainage will be installed.

“We are excited to embark on this transformative journey to elevate Colonial Country Club to new heights,” said Dan Casciano, president of Colonial. “This renovation underscores our dedication to providing an exceptional golf experience for our members and guests while preserving the rich heritage of our beloved course.”

A new 6,000-square-foot practice putting green and a new chipping green will be built.

Work is expected to be complete in December 2025.
