Heron Point at The Sea Pines Resort reopens following Dye’s enhancements
The Heron Point course at The Sea Pines Resort has reopened for play following enhancements made by Pete Dye’s firm.
Located on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, a series of modifications were carried out at the 7,058-yard, 18-hole course over the summer, with the objective of improving playability.
Originally designed by Dye’s firm and built in 1967, the architect’s team has softened the green surrounds and contours, enlarged several greens, and added ornamental landscape beds throughout the layout. Putting surfaces were also converted to TifEagle bermudagrass.
Heron Point is one of three courses at The Sea Pines Resort – the others being the Dye-designed Harbour Town Golf Links, and the Ocean Course, which was redesigned by original architect Mark McCumber in 1995.
“Our members and guests are going to love the changes made to Heron Point,” said Cary Corbitt, vice president of Sports and Operations at The Sea Pines Resort. “The course is the ideal complement to Harbour Town and gives us two of the premier 18s in the region.”
