King-Collins to design new course for team behind Hobart’s upcoming 7 Mile Beach layout
Clarence City Council has granted approval to former tour pro Mat Goggin for the development of a new golf course near his upcoming 7 Mile Beach layout in Hobart, Australia.
The course, likely to be known as 5 Mile Beach, will be routed on the northern side of the large spit of land east of the city’s international airport. The forthcoming 7 Mile Beach course, designed by Clayton, DeVries & Pont, lies to the south. The two courses will share a clubhouse.
“It’s a completely different piece of property but with all the great attributes you would want to build a course: sand, interesting contours, and most importantly next to the water,” said Goggin in a blog post. “The easiest way to describe the difference between the two sites would be 7 Mile is a dramatic Irish links site and 5 Mile is a classic Scottish links site.”

Eleven holes of 7 Mile Beach are set to open for preview play later this year, with a full opening anticipated by autumn 2025. Work on 5 Mile Beach could begin around the same time.
