Lake Hickory appoints Jeff Lawrence to oversee long-term renovation
Lake Hickory Country Club, near Charlotte, North Carolina, will begin a multi-phase renovation project on its 27 holes in July, following a plan developed by Jeff Lawrence.
Originally designed by William Byrd, the layout comprises three nines: Fox Run, Sulphur Springs and Dogwood.
The first phase will involve renovating bunkers on all 27 holes, to improve sustainability, playability and visual appeal, and tree clearance to improve turf quality. Additional design changes will be introduced on holes seven to nine of the Sulphur Springs nine to “substantially improve playability” on a closing stretch that many members currently find very challenging. Practice facilities will be overhauled too, to become a “hub of the facility”.
“There is so much potential to make a significant difference to the golf experience at Lake Hickory Country Club and I am confident the proposed enhancements will have an impactful and positive influence on the member golf experience,” said Lawrence, who will work alongside the club’s team of general manager Ken Church, director of golf Brian Reppart and golf course superintendent Jeff Clemmons.
“This investment will provide our current members with a premium golf experience, as well as attract new members to play one of the most preferred courses in the Hickory Metro area,” said Church.
“The plan envisioned by Lawrence looks to upgrade the facility while improving sustainable maintenance practices and expanding the appeal to members of all skill levels,” said Reppart.
