Mandell seeks help for family tree

American golf architect Richard Mandell has issued a plea to fellow designers for information on their own career history, and on the designers they have worked with.

Backed by the American Society of Golf Course Architects, of which he is a member, Mandell is trying to create a comprehensive family tree of golf course architects from the profession's earliest flowerings in Scotland in the nineteenth century to the present, global industry.

“I plan to track who worked for, with, and under golf architects and designers throughout the world from the time of Allan Robertson to the present,” said Mandell. “I'd like architects to provide me with the following information:

* What architects you worked for over the years (including those years);

* Who worked for you if you are principal in your own firm and when;

* Who worked alongside you and when.”

“Even incomplete information will help make connections and fill in blanks as part of this effort,” Mandell added. “Architects should email me at richard@golf-architecture.com with their contributions. Any information is helpful, including partial information sent to me multiple times as things come to mind. My goal is to further the efforts of Geoffrey Cornish, who undertook a similar effort years ago.”
