New Jim Engh-designed Minot Country Club course opens for play
A ceremony is taking place at the Minot Country Club on June 25 to mark the opening of its new golf course, four years after the original course was destroyed due to flooding.
The new course has been built on a different site, with architect Jim Engh brought in to oversee the design and development.
Engh and his crew broke ground at the new site on the outskirts of the town of Minot, North Dakota, in July 2013.
The new course features four sets of tees ranging from 4,686 yards to 7,029 yards, and includes dramatic elevation changes, as well as a natural stream and valley. The club will also be opening up a new clubhouse and practice facility with short game area.
Speaking to KX News, Engh said: “It’s a very unique and different kind of golf course. It’s more of an emotional experience, more of a ride, more of a fun element of the day rather than just going out and knocking a ball around a park.”
Engh added: “We really liked what we had with the lay of the land. There are many key shots that you hit from above to the green down below. And because of that famous North Dakota wind, we made most of the fairways very, very large.”
