New nine hole course to open in Austrian Alps this summer
A new nine hole course will open this June at Lech, in the Arlberg region of the Austrian Alps. The course has been designed by Austrian architect Diethard Fahrenleitner.
The new course will be the highest altitude golf in Austria, at around 1,500 metres (4,900 feet) above sea level. It has been built on what is believed to be one of very few level areas of ground in the Arlberg region.
The nine holes are situated on both sides of the Lech river in Zugertal close to Lech village. The course follows the river towards the Rote Wand to the Zugertobel. After the third tee, the course runs along the Lech river to the Stierloch stream to the fishpond and then returns back to the starting point.
“We’re so proud to finally be able to realise our dream to open a fabulous new golf course in the heart of Lech, this summer and we know our guests and new members are going to absolutely love this sleek new golf course,” said Clemens Walch, president of Lech Golf Club and owner of the Hotel Gotthard.
