New owners for Bear Creek
Bear Creek Golf Club in southern California has been sold to a group of local business and golf industry figures.
The 1982 Jack Nicklaus signature design has hosted a range of tournaments including the 1985 PGA Skins Game, featuring Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Fuzzy Zoeller, and a final qualifier for the 2007 US Open. The new owners, Bear Creek Partners say they are dedicated to reinvigorating the club.
One partner played a significant role in bringing the US Open to Torrey Pines in 2008, while new general manager Max Anderson, also a partner, has over 30 years as director of golf at Saginaw Country Club in Michigan.
“Bear Creek is entering an exciting phase of rebuilding its reputation. The feedback so far from the community and the club's members has been incredibly supportive and rewarding. Their enthusiasm has been helpful in making the first steps of this new venture a success. Since our closing in mid-August we have attracted over 60 new golf members,” said Anderson.
Bear Creek Partners has restructured all membership categories, reduced initiation fees and monthly dues; and revamped the food and beverage operation.
