Nine-hole course by Tyler Rae opens at Spy Ring on Long Island

Heritage Spy Ring Golf Club on Long Island, New York, has conducted a grand opening for its new nine-hole course designed by Tyler Rae.

The par 36 layout in South Setauket can be played from 2,323 to 3,105 yards and has holes ranging from 97 to 520 yards.

“We believe that we are ahead of most of the golf industry in recognising the slow, but steady, uptick in golf popularity over the last several years,” said Jimmi Conway, vice president of golf operations at Heatherwood, the development company behind the Spy Ring community, for over-55s. “The growing population of golfers on the island will surely welcome a new, public, nine-hole, Tyler Rae-designed course.”

The site was previously home to the 18-hole Heatherwood Golf Club, which closed in early 2020 after operating for over 50 years.

“Spy Ring stands out from its competition in so many ways,” said Douglas Patrick, CEO of Heatherwood. “The community’s outstanding amenities, its ideal location, and its focus on a healthy and active resident lifestyle put it in a class by itself. But the inclusion of a beautifully designed golf course, the first public layout successfully built on Long Island in nearly two decades, makes it a truly unique development and demonstrates Heatherwood’s ability to identify current business trends and ride the crest of a nascent golf industry comeback.”

Heatherwood is also renovating Pine Hills, an 18-hole public course in nearby Manorville.
