North course at Hunters Run reopens for play

The North course at Hunters Run Country Club in Boyton Beach, Florida, reopened for play in early December following a major renovation by Sanford Golf Design.

The course, one of three at the club, now features larger greens, reconfigured tees, recontoured fairways, new bunkers, rebuilt bulkheads and bridges, a new Toro irrigation system and new drainage.

TifEagle has been used on the putting surfaces while Latitude 36 bermuda has been used elsewhere on the course.

The maintained turf area has been reduced, with some areas that were previously grass replaced with crushed limestone and pine straw. The result is a reduction in requirements for irrigation water, fertilisers and pesticides.

The front and back nines have been switched, providing golfers with easier access to the first hole, as well as easier access to the clubhouse after completing the new eighteenth.

Sanford Golf Design’s master plan for work was approved in 2017, with construction beginning in spring 2018. Construction was completed in the autumn and members of the club have been given detailed tours of the renovated course.

A statement from the club said: “Overall, the North Golf Course project is a huge success and a wonderful enhancement for the Hunters Run membership and guests to enjoy.”
