Paul Miller returns to Mystic Lake for work on course and practice facility

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community will work with Paul Miller Design again for a renovation of the par-three seventeenth hole and the practice facility at The Meadows at Mystic Lake in Prior Lake, Minnesota.

Miller previously completed a bunker renovation at the club, which saw some of the hazards removed and others reshaped with a lower profile.

The project on the 137-yard seventeenth will include adding more tee space and work on the aesthetics of the hole and how it is played. Modern construction technologies will be employed to ensure the timber wall, which runs along the left side of the fairway and green, is stable.

The practice area will also be renovated and will include a multi-level putting and chipping green, bunkers, fairway chipping areas, nineteenth hole ‘shootout’ tees, and a tournament seating area overlooking the eighteenth hole. A new bridge, located between the eighteenth green (pictured) and the clubhouse, will also be built.

“Surrounded by acres of wildflowers and prairie plants with water on 13 holes, The Meadows is already a high-calibre golf course, and the design and maintenance of the layout is second to none,” said SMSC chairman Keith Anderson. “We have an opportunity with these improvements to make our course even more unique and are excited to see these concepts realised.”

Work is set to begin in summer 2022 and is expected to be complete by the start of the 2023 golf season.
