Pebble Beach ready to open Tiger Woods’ reimagined ‘The Hay’

Pebble Beach Golf Links in California is preparing to unveil The Hay, a nine-hole par-three course designed by Tiger Woods’ firm, TGR Design.

The Hay is a reimagining of the former Peter Hay golf course and has been designed with an emphasis on playability for golfers of all abilities. Peter Hay was a former head professional at the resort.

The new 106-yard second hole is a replica of Pebble Beach’s seventh and will play with the same yardage and elevation change. “We know not everyone who comes to Pebble Beach will have a chance to play the US Open course, so we wanted to create the opportunity for all visitors to experience one of its most famous holes,” said Woods.

Hole yardages correspond to significant milestones in the resort’s history, with plaques on each tee telling the story. The 47-yard fourth hole, for example, is named after Bing Crosby who, in 1947, brought the first Pro-Am tournament to Pebble Beach. The event is now known as the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and is one of the longest-running on the PGA Tour.

Other holes include the 100-yard ninth, ‘Tiger’, marking Woods’ victory at the 100th US Open at Pebble Beach in 2000; the 61-yard seventh named after Jack Nicklaus, who won his second US Amateur at the resort in 1961; and the 82-yard third, a tribute to Tom Watson, who won the 1982 US Open at Pebble Beach with help from a chip-in birdie on the seventeenth.

The Hay is complemented by a new 20,000-square-foot putting course that covers 100 yards and will rotate regularly through over a dozen different routings.
