Phil Mickelson Design to upgrade the Greenbrier Course

Phil Mickelson Design is leading a new renovation project on the Greenbrier Course at The Greenbrier Resort in Virginia.

The resort in White Sulphur Springs is home to five courses, with a sixth currently under construction. The Greenbrier Course was originally designed by Seth Raynor and opened in 1929. It hosted the 1979 Ryder Cup.

The Greenbrier course suffered significant damage in June of this year due to flooding, and much of the renovation work will focus on restoring the course to its former glory.

A team from Phil Mickelson Design – which included co-designer Rick Smith, design director Mike Angus and Mickelson himself – visited the resort in early October to assess the site.

The renovations will commence in January 2017, and it is hoped that all work will be completed by November. The Greenbrier Course should reopen in spring 2018.
