Renovation project commences at Rio Secco Golf Club
A series of renovations are to be made to the course at Rio Secco Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The work will be led by a team from Rees Jones Inc. Rees Jones was the original designer of the Rio Secco course, which opened in 1997.
Jones and the project team will look to update the course’s feature and the club’s practice facility, with a focus on increasing playability and sustainability.
“We are going to resurface, regrass and expand the greens back to their original sizes to recapture lost pin positions and also make changes to create a different character on some,” said Jones. “Several bunkers will be eliminated or rebuilt to bring them up to today’s standards and to enhance the playing experiences for golfers of all skill levels.”
Jones described Rio Secco as being on a ‘big bold site’ that has matured substantially in the twenty years since it first opened.
“I am excited to be back working at Rio Secco,” he said. “This is an amazing natural site for golf. When I first saw it, I thought it was the best piece of land in Las Vegas. The golf course reflects the beauty that surrounds it which is why it continues to be regarded as one of the best layouts in the west.”
The project is set to be completed by September 2017, with a scheduled reopening in October 2017.
