Renovation work begins at Troon North’s Pinnacle course

Troon North Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA, has closed its Pinnacle course for a four-month ‘enhancement’ project.

Troon’s senior vice president of golf course development Ron Despain is overseeing the project, which includes utilizing GPS coordinates to update green complexes to the shape, size and contours of Tom Weiskopf's original design.

Greens will be resurfaced with A4 creeping bent and collars will be resurfaced with TifGrand semi-dwarf bermuda grass. Bunker renovation work will include updated drainage in all greenside and fairway bunkers, new bunker liners and new bunker sand.

The club’s Monument course, which underwent a similar improvement project last summer, will remain open while work on the Pinnacle is in progress.

“We continue to reinvest in and enhance our flagship facility,” said Tim Schantz, president of Troon, the golf course management firm that owns and operates Troon North. “Thanks to Ron Despain and the agronomy team at Troon North, our 2017 enhancement of the Monument course was a huge success and improved upon one of the top daily-fee courses in the nation. We expect to see similar results with this summer’s Pinnacle improvements.”

The 2017 Monument course improvements were the first major changes to either of the courses since a 2007 renovation, reconfiguration and rerouting of both, under Weiskopf's direction.
