Renovations and modernisations coming to Desert Horizons CC course

A new golf course renovation project is underway at the Desert Horizons Country Club near La Quinta, California.

Led by golf course architect Clive Clark, much of the focus of the project is on refreshing the course and bringing it up to modern standards.

The Desert Horizons layout was designed by Ted Robinson and was first played back in 1979.

Specific elements of Clark’s work will include the renovation of the course’s greenside and fairway bunkers, some of which he has indicated he will make flatter than those of Robinson’s original design.

A hill in the middle of the sixth fairway which obscures players’ view of the green has been removed, as has a fronting lake on the same hole.

New forward tees have already been added, and a number of greens have been recontoured.

Estimated to cost in the region of US$1.7 million to complete, the project is being funded entirely by donations from the club’s membership.
