Renovations continue at Bacon Park as work on back nine begins
Renovations are being made to the back nine at the Bacon Park golf course in Savannah, Georgia.
An original Donald Ross design, the course is now managed by the O.C. Welch Golf Properties company, which is overseeing the current renovation work.
Grass sprigs have gone onto the fairway of the tenth hole, and turf is being laid around the green on the eleventh hole according to an article from WTOC.com.
The current work is the third of seven phases of renovation work at Bacon Park GC, with the overall aim of restoring the course to its original design using hand-drawn plans from Ross himself, which were created in the 1930s.
Fred Elmgren, assistant golf pro at Bacon Park, told WTOC.com: “We’ll just move on a steady pace. Right now holes ten through fourteen are where most of the focus is, although work is continuing to be done on the rough shaping on holes fifteen through eighteen. So within the next three weeks, we should pretty much have most of the main grassing done on the first half of the back nine, ten through fourteen.”
The scheduled date for reopening of the back nine is currently 1 October.
