Restoration of Hammock Beach’s Ocean Course nears completion
The Ocean Course at the Hammock Beach Resort is set to reopen this October following a restoration project.
The course in Palm Coast, Florida, was forced to close following severe damage caused by high winds and a storm surge during Hurricane Matthew back in October 2016.
Nicklaus Design, the firm behind the original design, were engaged to help bring the course back to its former glory.
The course is renowned for its six hole closing stretch – ‘The Bear Claw’ – which runs alongside the Atlantic Ocean.
The project team has regrassed all fairways, greens and rough with salt-tolerant Platinum Paspalum. With thick, short grass blades, Platinum Paspalum is tolerant of all seasons and will be able to withstand seasonal temperature changes.
Each tee box, bunker and green complex on the course has also been reconstructed.
New forward tees have also been added to each hole, meaning the course can be played at 4,100 yards from the front tees, and as long as 7,201 yards from the back tees.
