Robert Trent Jones II’s firm advances global project portfolio
Robert Trent Jones II’s golf architecture firm is working at courses across the world, with projects taking place from South America to Asia.
In Argentina, the RTJ II firm has started construction of a new 18-hole course at Rio Hondo Golf Club. A sandy site featuring wetlands and lagoons, the course will lie at the side of the Hondo River, and its construction is part of a government-sponsored project.
Also in South America, the firm has completed the second nine holes at the Mesa de Yeguas Country Club, which is located near Anapoima in Colombia. Completing an 18-hole layout, the course lies in the valley of the Bogota River, and many holes play along high cliff-top plateaus.
RTJ II is also close to completing construction phase of a rebuild project at Poppy Hills Golf Course on the Monterey Peninsula in Pebble Beach, California. Work includes the reduction of irrigated turf with the aim of conserving water, and the firm has introduced transitional zones of sand areas between turf and forest.
Work has been completed by the firm at the SentryWorld golf course in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Opened in 1987, the course has undergone extensive upgrading to drainage and irrigation in recent times, and the RTJ II team created four entirely new holes as part of the recent project.
RTJ II has completed a multi phase renovation at The Wisley near London, UK. The firm delivered more easily-maintained turf at the course, and improved conditions across the club’s 27 holes. Robert Trent Jones, Jr, said of the project: “Our work at The Wisley shows what a forward-thinking facility can accomplish through a well-crafted master plan created in consultation with highly-experienced golf course architects. Members never lost a day of golf while we improved conditions and brought their golf holes into the modern era.”
And in Asia, RTJ II’s second course at Changbaishan, near Beijing is nearing completion. The course complements the existing course on the resort and religious pilgrimage site, which lies in the mountainous areas that separates China from North Korea.
