RTJ2 designs in Hungary

Architect firm Robert Trent Jones II is designing Hungary's first masterplanned golf resort at Zala Springs in the west of the country. The golf course, which is expected to open next year, will play to 7,250 yards. It is located close to Balaton airport, which has flights from the UK and Ireland on Ryanair.

The site features the Zala river on several holes and is gently undulating, without many trees. Designers intend to use mainly tall fescue grasses to promote a traditional, open feel to the course. The developers, who include Irish travel firm Carr Golf, plan to build houses around the property, which will be marketed both to local buyers and to golf travellers, with prices starting at €128,000.
