Seven Canyons prepares to reopen following Phil Smith renovation

The Club at Seven Canyons in Sedona, Arizona, will reopen its renovated golf course in April.

The Tom Weiskopf-designed layout has been revamped by Phil Smith, who was part of Weiskopf’s design team for its original construction in 2002.

Under new ownership since 2022, the club brought in Smith to develop a renovation masterplan. Work completed includes re-sequencing holes, levelling tees and rebunkering.

“We installed brand-new, white, beautiful sand in the bunkers and returned all the bunker lines back to their original shapes,” said Smith. “That striking look of the beautiful green grass with the contrast of the white sand and those red rocks in the background is back.”

Smith has also designed a new short-game area, including an 8,000-square-foot putting green, and a green complex with a bunker and run-off areas. He has also added ‘Tom’s Secret 7’  tees, from which players can play to the central flag on the short-game practice green.

The short-game area will also have a social space called ‘Turn House’. “We created this gathering and hangout spot for the members,” said general manager David Bisbee. “The settings for both the long and short-game practice areas are nothing short of remarkable.”
