Spanish Wells renovates its South and East nines
Spanish Wells Golf & Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida, is in the final stages of a US$1.5 million renovation project on its South and East nines.
Last year, the Spanish Wells Community Association bought the 27-hole club in order to protect open space and increase home values. Billy Casper Golf was retained to operate the club and has overseen the renovation work.
The eighteen greens have been regressed with TifEagle bermuda and green surrounds have also been reshaped and regrassed. “Some bunkers were added, some reshaped, some deleted, lake banks were restored and changed in some areas, giving the courses a different look,” said Bill Shiles, the club’s general manager. There club has also updated drainage and irrigation and landscaped the clubhouse area.
“Spanish Wells is thriving as is the $84 billion golf industry,” said Shiles. “Golfers are raving about the new elements to the course, all rave about the clubhouse, and new members and guests are lining up to be part of our community vibe.”
