Spring start for Angus course
Construction is planned to start next spring on the new Wyndham Grand Angus golf resort in Scotland, being developed by local firm Map Property & Leisure Developments.
Scottish architect Graeme Webster of Team Niblick is designing the course, along with signature designer Darren Clarke. Located outside Dundee, next to the existing Forbes of Kingennie resort, the course will have sea views towards Carnoustie, the Tay Bridge and Fife.
The £60 million development will also include a five star hotel with spa, leisure facilities and lodges, plus a residential component. The course should be complete by autumn 2014, to coincide with the Ryder Cup visiting nearby Gleneagles, while the resort as a whole should open in 2015.
Webster said: “Darren and I have created a golf course that will get strategically harder in shot selection as the golfer gets better. Golfers as talented as Darren will often choose the heroic route and when the shot comes off they will be putting for eagles and birdies but, those slightly less gifted will still face a shot selection challenge more suited to their ability. Ultimately, we want people to come off the course with smiles on their faces and make it a pleasurable experience that they want to repeat.”
During the next month the greens and tees will be set out, and Webster and Clarke will walk the course before making final adjustments to the plans prior to the build starting next year.
