Storm King club to open redesigned course with multiple configurations in 2026

Storm King Golf Club in Cornwall, New York, will open its redesigned golf course with multiple configurations for preview play in autumn 2025, with an official opening planned for spring 2026.

The original nine-hole Storm King course, designed by Willy Norton and George Low, opened in 1894. It was created on a 63-acre property that has dramatic elevation changes, ridgelines and views of Storm King Mountain and the Catskills, and is 56 miles from New York City.

In 2010, the club filed for bankruptcy and by 2013, it was ‘bank-owned’ and remained operational. In the early 2020s, the club was bought by David Gang, a computer engineer-turned-software executive, and Hudson Valley Golf Foundation, with a plan to reimagine the course.

Storm King has become an invitation-only club and architect Chris Gray was hired to oversee a redesign that would give the layout the flexibility to be configured in several different ways. Troon is serving as the operator and management partner, overseeing aspects like operations, events and marketing.

“Storm King was built to be a golf experience,” said Gang. “It was designed to be a place where you can have fun, challenge your game, and reconnect with what made you fall in love with golf in the first place. This is golf reimagined.

“With five distinct nine-hole routings, 225,000 square feet of greens (including one quad green, two triple, three double and four single greens), and over 30 multi-directional tee locations, Storm King is more than a course – it’s a configurable golf experience with over 50 golf holes. Overlayed on top of it all is a 19-hole par-three layout for shorter, sharper play or a fun challenge with friends.”

Storm King will maintain fairways and surrounds with 18 Husqvarna automowers and greens with electric triplex and walk-behind mowers. GPS-guided sprayers and drone applications will deliver precise turf care with minimal impact to wildlife and soil.

In October, Storm King will host a matchplay invitational, with the event showcasing 24 top adaptive golfers from around the US. Presented in partnership with the Hudson Valley Golf Foundation, the tournament will benefit the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which supports families of 9/11 victims.
