Lehman has altered fairway lines across the course to aid playability

A series of alterations are being made to the 18-hole Gold Course at the Wigwam Golf Resort near Phoenix, Arizona.

Representatives from the resort are working alongside Tom Lehman with the aim of improving playability and enjoyment for the average golfer.

Much of the work focuses on the course’s bunkering, with renovations seeing new drainage, bunker liner, sand and a grass down feature from the top line of the bunker.

A handful of bunkers are also being removed from the course, which was originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.

Lehman has altered fairway lines across the course and integrated the site’s plenteous number of trees into the design, helping to bring the fairways closer to the trees. This means penalties for shots off line are no longer likely to be from fairway bunkers, but players are more likely to have to take the surrounding terrain and trees into the equation.

Work is set to be completed by the beginning of September.
